Across the land: A fusion of world music in the capital

Artists from Spain, the United States, and India recently embarked on a mesmerizing musical journey called “Across the Land.” This collaborative effort promised to captivate audiences with its innovative blend of melodies from the three countries, and it certainly delivered. Currently touring throughout India, the tour kicked off in the capital city on October 25th.

The ensemble consists of four talented artists: Mar Vilaseca on vocals, Srijanee Banerjee on sitar, Jaume Vilaseca on piano, and Birsa Chatterjee on saxophone. Together, these musicians have created a transcendent fusion of genres, incorporating elements of jazz, folk music, flamenco, contemporary classical, and Indian classical music. Each artist has contributed harmonies inspired by their own musical traditions, resulting in a diverse and enchanting musical experience.

The collaboration is presented by the Embassy of Spain in India with support from Instituto Cervantes and India Habitat Centre. The project is co-produced by Puy & Co, an organization based in Barcelona that is dedicated to producing and promoting exceptional artistic and cultural experiences. It is also co-produced by Meta Arts, a cultural organization based in Kolkata that specializes in facilitating innovative and cutting-edge artistic projects.
